Strengths and weaknesses

This page explains profiles of strengths and weaknesses. The knowhow about the strategic use of profiles etc can be found in meineZIELE's pritend material.

How to create a profile?

meineZIELE helps you analyze strengths and weaknesses by profiles.

Rating

You create a simple evaluation scale by which you evaluate any property, skill, strength etc on a scale from 1 (A) to 6 (E/F) or from 1 to 10. Click on a point to change its shade (indicating importance) (2). Click besides a point to change its position (indicating the evaluation itself).

To use the voting system click on     . The scale that will be displayed affects the currently chosen line.

The best diagrams are those where nothing can be left out anymore. Therefore a visible scale does not exist. The users decide by themselves if the best grade is on the left or on the right of the scale.

Evaluations are somehow vivid. Until the analysis is finished, they can change repeatedly. Therefore, evaluations are not recorded as numbers, but only by mouse clicks. You change an evaluation by clicking on or beside the point. Up/down arrows, as shown in the screenshot, shall indicate lead or advantage. You turn a point into an arrow by right-clicking on it.

Furthermore, meineZIELE makes hierarchical outlines possible. Often you won't want to evaluate the higher hierarchy levels, such as "Special skills". Evaluations do not always make sense. Thus the evaluation bar disappears if you click the point some times.

Strengths and weaknesses from the customer's perspective

Perhaps, mathematics is one of your strengths. That is important if you are engineer. If you are pastor, nobody would consider mathematics as crucial for your job.

Your profile of strengths and weaknesses can only become a basis of strategic decisions if you consider the point of view of your target audience as well. Then, your profile will gain a second dimension. Thus it will be able to evaluate a property with marks and display its importance for your clients.

If you evaluate your foreign language knowledge, for instance, usually you evaluate the proficiency first. If necessary, you can create a second level and evaluate written and spoken skills and other aspects. However, it will be equally important which value will be given to your language skills in your professional environment. To visualize the importance, you will quasi need a second dimension. This can be realized by three available shades between light gray and black. Just change a point's shade by clicking on it.

So you can visualize properties that are important or unimportant for your target audience. A globally working car maker would probably consider your Spanish more important than your Latin. Furthermore, you could discover that you have been learning slowly but a high pace would be advantageous for you. So, you have already discovered a weakness by simple visualization.

Do not forget to considerate aspects in your analysis that can't be evaluated instantaneously. If you are bookkeeper and hold a pilot's license you can omit an evaluation. However, by no means you should omit it in the listing. In special cases such things can make you appear more attractive for your target audience because your personality is estimated stronger.
