Successful people always know exactly what they want. People without clear objectives do not have success. Even highly talented people fail at this point.

Goals are important. They help us concentrate our forces. They draw attention to the desired result. Goals can inspire your employees and yourself, because they convey meaning and allow for self-responsibility. By setting milestones, we can easily control the progress of a goal.

When dealing with goals, the key success factor is clarity. This means both clear sub goals and a clear overview of all the upcoming goals.

Only if we know where we want to go, we can set the sails properly. So, you need to make clear which success you want. Set goals. Find ways which lead there. This is the pivotal point of success.

Setting goals means to form a will

In everyday life, it is not common to formulate everything we want to achieve as an objective.

The main reason is the daily trifles in which we entangle ourselves. We note trifles to relieve our memory. Only at major tasks we begin to think "I want to have a new roof on my garden shed till the end of April..."

ZieleWe do not want to achieve all of our goals unconditionally and under all circumstances. But too often, we note "goals" as chances of which we do not know whether we can or want to take them at all. "I would like to visit the German museum during the business trip, if I have some time left..." is not a goal, because there is no will.

It is better to speak clearly, "I will take the opportunity to visit the German museum on the last day of travel". So you take into account to sacrifice goals to circumstances every now and then. But in total, you will achieve much more of such goals.

We should just write down goals, tasks, opportunities or ideas and make them manageable. There is no failure if a once noted task has to be deleted without having been solved. That is the normal course of life. But the will must be recognizable. It should be clear that we want to achieve goals and tackle tasks.

Practice it

Today is the first day of the rest of your life. So, let us practice with really large goals. Please consider the four greatest successes you still want to achieve in your life. Dreams also may be included. Formulate these successes as goals. At each one, describe clearly what you want to achieve and what you need to avoid.

Also describe details or sub-goals and milestones. And since these are very large goals: Name the reasons: Why are these goals so important for you? Why do you want to achieve them?

And the trivial matters?

Successes are not always great. Everyday life is determined by trifles. At daily time management, it is important to record everything that has to be done. This reduces stress.

Only very small tasks, for example what can be done in three minutes, should be solved immediately. Anything else should be listed and done when necessary.
