Passwords for files

If others have access to Your files, You might want to encrypt Your mZ goals file. mZ provides such a password protection. A password is for a single file only. But You can encrypt different files with the same password. Encryption means: The whole file is saved in Your PC with a professional algorithm in bits and bytes, which cannot be read without the password.

Encryption with a sure password is sure for any curios collegues. If You forget the password, Your file is gone. It is not known, whether it will hold against professional decryption attacks. The password is 4 to 40 characters. For strong protection please use a long password, which is difficult to guess and has some special characters like % or $.
 

How meineZIELE files are saved

Your goals and tasks are usually saved in the file format xml. In this format they can be read by a human easily. In the (elder) format xmv and the (new) format xcl the data is encrypted. That means they can only be read with the help of a password. The format xcl creates remarkable smaller files.
 

Using meineZIELE on a Windows Smartphone

The app mZ Phone (for smartphones using Windows 10) does only use the encrypted format xcl. This is because the data has to be saved on the Microsoft Cloud Service OneDrive and that way is transported through the internet.

 meineZIELE and mZ Phone can use the same file.

mZ encrypts the files with a standard password so the files cannot be read without using mZ Phone or meineZIELE.
This makes it comfortable for you as you don`t have to keep and enter this password every time.

To raise your safety standard please use a personal password. (Please read notes above "Passwords for files".)
 

How to set a password:

Encryption is selected by "save encrypted file" in the file menu. The file extension is xcl instead of xml / xmv.

Please note: mZ never deletes Your files. If Your xml file already contained data You might save them in a save place and delete them manually.

Password protection does only protect the xml file itself. Other files like scanned and linked documents are not protected by this feature.

When You open Your file, mZ will automatically recognize it as encrypted and ask for the password.
 

How to change your password:

Open the menu and select "Change password". It is also possible to save without protection again later.
 

No data export!

With password protection enabled, automatic data export is disabled. But no files are deleted, which have been saved unprotected before.
 

Hint:

There are Crypto USB sticks on which your data can be saved encrypted.
