The crib sheet method
A lot of information we are collecting is not "documents", but small, scattered pieces of knowhow. We have information like bank accounts, order numbers, names an adresses, passowords, short notes, checklistes, no of your id card, passport number, blood group, recipes, etc. This kind of informationen is
- very short
- very important
- very diverse
The best way to deal with this is the most simple way: Take all notes in a single textfile and make use of the search function of Your text editor to find them again.
The crib sheet of meineZIELE
Open the crib sheet with the crib sheet button. All entries and changes are saved automatically when You close the crib sheet window.
The file is an rtf file (rich text format) which can be edited by WordPad, which windows has in its accessory. You don´t need to use mZ for this. But there are some functions, which might be of good use:
Assign entries
With theButton
the Informationen of the
selected line of mZ is entered into the crib sheet. The data fields can be selected in the options of the crib sheet.
As You can see in the screenshot, icons may be assigned too.
1-click filing
meineZIELE can assign file links from the 1-click filing like the file link in the screenshot.
The file paths are displayed in plain writing and set in square brackets. Therefore You can use Wordpad without destroying this information.
If You click on such an entry within square brackets and then on
, it is highlighted. A file button appears and
You might choose to open the file.
Websites are recognized and highlighted automatically and are clickable for direct access.
Index
If a word starts with ! then a click on this word makes the program jump to the next occurance of the same word (with !at the beginning) You might use this to build an index.
Encryption
When saving the crib sheet for the first time You can decide for saving it encrypted. Normally this is not recommended, because most times You will want to have a very quick access without entering passwords.
